TikTok x Shopify App Tutorial: Install the TikTok Pixel & Launch TikTok ads Right From Shopify!

Dec 29, 2020

Hello! My name is Savannah Sanchez also known as The Social Savannah, and I am a freelancer that specializes in TikTok media buying and ad creative development. In the past few months, I’ve been able to scale some of my Shopify clients using TikTok ads and the results have been amazing.
If you are tired of the high CPM’s on other platforms and the crazy competition, or if you are just looking to diversify your ad spend and reach a brand new audience that converts, then you should absolutely try out TikTok ads.

The traffic on TikTok is not only a great value, but the conversion rates are also high. It’s clear that TikTok users are not only using the platform to watch funny videos, but people are discovering their new favorite brands on TikTok.

When I started running TikTok ads in June for my eCommerce clients, one of the biggest challenges was pixel set up and making new creatives specifically for TikTok. However, that problem has been completely solved now with the new Shopify TikTok integration! This app allows you to create video ads, track results, and manage your orders all from within Shopify.

The TikTok app on Shopify is free to use and it allows you to easily install the tracking pixel with just a click of a button. It’s so simple and has enabled me to get my clients started on TikTok advertising literally minutes after installing the TikTok Shopify app. No more having to rely on a developer to install the TikTok pixel or messing around with the website code!

What’s also cool is that you can create high-converting TikTok ads quickly and easily right from within the Shopify app. With the unique Video Generator tool, you can input product images, and the app generates multiple high-quality videos for you to choose from in minutes.

Plus, the best part about getting started with TikTok ads is that you can get a FREE ad credit towards your first campaign! Before Jan 31st , eligible SMB customers can claim a one-time ad credit worth $300 USD when the account review is passed.

Claiming the ad credit is a simple and easy process. Once you create your TikTok ad account, you’ll see where to click in order to register your business and claim the one time credit .

So want to learn exactly how I set up my ad campaigns for my Shopify clients within the new TikTok Shopify app? Let me show you how easy it is to get started with TikTok ads!

The first step is to go to the Shopify App store and download the free TikTok app.

Now the second step is to create your TikTok For Business account.

TikTok is going to want to know some basic info about your business. Simply enter in your basic information like where you are located, the name of your business, and your contact info to create your TikTok Ads Manager account.

After you make your TikTok Ads Manager Account and accept the Terms and Conditions, the next step is to implement the TikTok pixel on the Shopify store. Creating a pixel is literally so easy with this app which is why I recommend to all of my eCommerce clients to install the TikTok Shopify app! Just click on the “Create Pixel” button, from the TikTok shopify app, and the pixel is installed. Now you can track when people are viewing your product pages, adding to cart, starting the checkout process, and ultimately purchasing! Every step through the purchase funnel is tracked. This is great, because now you can easily see how many new customers you are obtaining from TikTok ads and the cost per purchase. You can also create retargeting audiences based off of pixel events. For example, a strategy I use is to retarget all of the TikTok users who came to my store and viewed a product page. Once the pixel starts collecting data on who is coming to your website, it's easy to create custom retargeting audiences based off of pixel events.

Next, you are going to want to pick the country you want to target.

The next step is to add a payment method to your account. Now, remember, you still get the free $300 towards your first campaign. But this is how you will add additional budget for TikTok ads when you are ready to spend more.

It’s time to build and launch your first campaign!

First, select the product you want to advertise. This is where the traffic from your ad will go to.

Now let’s get to the fun part , ad creatives! You can either upload your own ad creative or use TikTok’s dynamic video generator to instantly make full screen vertical ads

Next, add your ad text which is essentially the headline for your ad. I like to include a strong call to action, so for mine, I’m going to write my headline as Save 20% On Beauty Essentials! Shop Now.

TikToker’s love a good sale, so having a compelling offer like 20% off can really seal the deal.

Next, choose your gender targeting and age targeting. For new advertisers, I like to choose pretty broad targeting. I’ve seen better results so far when using a broader audience on TikTok. Broad audience targeting performs well because the algorithm does all the heavy lifting to find the perfect audience for you. TikTok is a great place to reach all types of consumers! In fact, one of the fastest growing audiences are people over 30+. So no matter what your age and gender targeting, you are going to find that audience on TikTok.

You can also layer on behavior-based targeting. This is what really sets TikTok apart from other platforms, you can target people based on the type of videos they interact with. For example, for one of my beauty brand clients, I like to target TikTok users who have watched to the end, liked, commented, or shared a video in the Beauty & Care category in the last 7 days. I absolutely love that on TikTok you can target users based on their behaviors, not just broad interest categories like on other platforms! If someone is sharing and commenting on a Beauty video, there’s a good chance that they may also resonate with my beauty products.

The next step is to choose your optimization event. I’ve learned that when starting out on a brand new TikTok account, it can be helpful to optimize for an upper funnel goal like page view or add to cart so that the pixel can get seasoned with lots of data. Eventually, the goal is to have complete payment optimized campaigns, but sometimes it's good to give the pixel a boost by optimizing for an upper funnel event when first starting out.

Next, choose the daily or lifetime budget for your campaign and your campaign start and end dates, or choose to run it continuously with no set end date for now. You can always go in later to extend the campaign or cut it off early.

Lastly, there is the option to choose Cost Cap bidding or Lowest Cost bidding. Cost cap allows you to enter your desired cost per result and the algorithm will try and optimize around that goal. For instance, you can set a cost cap of $4 per add to cart or $10 per purchase. You can also choose the lowest cost bidding, which is my personal preference, because that gives the algorithm more flexibility and adjusts your bids in real-time to try and get the lowest cost results.

Well, now you know how you can quickly and easily launch your first campaign right in the TikTok Shopify app!

With the Holiday season coming upon  us right now, don’t wait on this limited time offer! Before Jan 31st , eligible SMB customers can claim a one-time ad credit worth $300 USD when the account review is passed.
